Working it out: A bit of fun with movement and music

I was so excited to hear that InsideOut was starting to offer Cardio Dance classes, also known as Zumba. I get to workout and dance at the same time? Count me in!

I had picked up a few dances at home from youtube videos, but never officially took a Zumba or dance class, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I stood on the wooden floor as the music started blasting and the instructor (Noora), started dancing. Before the class had officially started Noora ran through the moves with us so we would know them when they came up. The songs consisted of the same 5 moves or so so after learning just 5 dance moves our small group were ready to start!

About 40 minutes later we were done and I had totally forgotten I was actually working out. Dancing in the Zumba class was one of my favourite things I’ve done at InsideOut studio. We followed along with the music and it was far easier than expected. It helped all the music was so catchy and fun, it was something anyone would enjoy.

Zumba has a lot of Latin influence, in fact, the word Zumba itself comes from the word Rumba, which is a Cuban music genre. Zumba was also created in Columbia by Beto Pérez in the late 1990s. The music in Zumba classes is often Latin-inspired music.

The first moves were fun, and I wasn't expecting it, but I was sweating in no time. The best part was, I didn't even notice how tired I was until the first dance was finished! We did two dances each with its own similar but different dance moves, and each was a blast with a catchy rhythm that I could dance along to.

I wasn't focused on working out, getting myself to sweat or losing weight, I was having fun and busting out my dance moves. At the same time, the dance moves don't have to be perfect, I definitely wasn't, but the point is to move your body and have fun.

This has been one of the best classes I’ve taken at InsideOut Studio. Dancing has so many amazing health benefits and you can try it yourself! Check out Cardio Dance at InsideOut Studio.
